Yüksekkaldırım Ashkenazi Synagogue
The Austrian Ashkenazim, who lived in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, had built a wooden synagogue in 1866, where the current Yüksekkaldırım Ashkenazi Synagogue is located. This structure, which remained open for worship until the end of the century was established by virtue of Abdul Hamid II’s permission until the present synagogue was built and started its service. The synagogue which is called Oesterreichsicher Tempel built with the financial support of the Ashkenazim of Austria, continues to host rituals such as weddings for the Turkish Ashkenazi community since 1900, since the day it was opened for worship with a magnificent ceremony.
